to luke, on your second birthday
Where do I even begin? I can’t believe you’re already two years old. Two! It feels like just yesterday we were bringing you home from the hospital all tiny and brand new. I blinked and you went from being a newborn to a toddler.
Being your mother has been the greatest gift. You’ve taught me to love like I never knew was possible, and have loved me just as fiercely in return. You’ve taught me patience and have been patient in return as I figure this whole motherhood thing out. I’ve gotten to see the world in a whole new way because I get to see it through your eyes. I can’t even begin to express how much joy you’ve brought to my life.
The past two years we’ve gotten to spend with you have been nothing short of amazing. You are the sweetest and most affectionate little boy I know, and your dad and I are so proud of the person you are becoming. You’re great at sharing your toys and your snacks with friends, you give hugs and kisses freely, and you’re always concerned when others aren’t happy. You’ve become my little sidekick and best buddy. You love anything with wheels (especially trains), animals, swimming, Paw Patrol and Shrek. You’re quiet and sometimes shy and don’t usually have much to say – you seem like the strong and silent type. You love to help me with whatever I’m doing whether it’s cooking, cleaning, folding laundry, or anything in between. You’ve also become pretty funny recently; you love to wear your housecoat, dance, and are obsessed with french fries, drinkable yogurts and timbits.
This past year you became a big brother and the role came so naturally to you I could hardly believe it. You were always meant to be a big brother. Ever since the first time you met Jack, you have shown him nothing but love. You love to hug and kiss and fuss over him. It’s clear how much you love him and I just know you’re going to set the best example for him.
I can’t wait to see what the next year holds for you – it’s going to be so much fun.
Happy second birthday, lovebug! Your dad & I love you more than anything.
